How it works
The Flyboard allows users to fly anywhere from a few feet high all the way up to and over 30 feet in the air through water propulsion. It was created and designed by Zapata Racing in 2011 and has taken the watersports world by storm since then. The Flyboard attaches to a Jet Ski through a 55 foot hose and the power of the Jet Ski is used to propel water out of the Flyboard. Though some people might refer to it as a water jetpack, the user is actually secured into the board by their feet. When in the Flyboard, the rider/flyer controls the navigation whilst the person (madcityflyboard instructor) driving the Jet Ski controls the power. When the Flyboard is attached to a Jet Ski, the Jet Ski has no steering. Flyboarding requires the user to manipulate the spray of the jets by tilting their feet fore and aft and shifting weight from right foot to left foot, etc. to maintain balance . This is because the propulsion and balance come from the jets attached to the board where your feet are strapped in. Optional hand jets can be used, but we've found having the hands and arms free to move actually enhance balance. It also makes it easier to do dolphin dives which are super fun.

About the Flyboard
The PWC (Jet Ski) provides all of the propulsion for the Flyboard®. Using a set of unique and patented adapters, inventor Franky Zapata of Zapata Racing, turned an ordinary watercraft into a Water Sports Sensation. The thrust from the PWC is routed through a long hose up to the Flyboard® where a rider can divert and control that thrust to create any type of movement he/she desires. All of the thrust developed from the PWC is routed through the hose, so the PWC just follows behind the rider in trail giving you the freedom to go anywhere, even underwater.
The Flyboard® has its own buoyancy and therefore floats on the water providing the rider added safety. You can fly over the water, under the water, and have complete freedom to fly freestyle. Freestyle riding adds an entire new realm of moves and tricks. We can assure you that the Flyboard® is quite safe, but with any sport, there are risks. At Madcityflyboards we do everything possible to minimize rider/flyer risk.
One nice thing about this sport is that crashes (if any) are in the water.
