What sets Madcityflyboards apart?
In a nutshell, the flyboarding business is a perfect fit for me personally. My name is Robert Cook and I'm the owner of Madcityflyboards. The first and only Madison based Flyboarding company in the region. I've spent the majority of my adult life teaching and training other sports such as Skiing, Kiteboarding and Soccer.
Level 3 certified ski instructor (PSIA).
Accredited ski instructor (PMTS).
16 years running a kiteboarding school and business.
15 years of coaching soccer.
With this knowledge, I am able to look at potential risk situations and help prevent problems from occuring. This helps to enhance everyones flyboarding experience.
We've flown new riders who weigh slightly under 100 lbs and some over 275 lbs. It takes a very different level of expertise to fly riders of different weights and we are very intune how to fly riders of different weights. Young and light riders take a very careful control of the thrust to fly them safely.
Are there added Safety measures? YES.....
The Flyboard floats.
You are required to wear a life jacket, so you float.
You are required to wear a helmet.
We fly in locations that have depths over 10 feet deep.
We have a vast knowledge of the madison area lakes to make sure you are riding in locations with the best possible water quality.
What does the water "police" think of flyboarding?
The first thing I did even before making the decision to start Madcityflyboards was to contact all the local agencies (DNR, Sheriffs Dept. and others) to let them know about Flyboarding in Madison. We want to make sure we are compliant with all rules and regulations. So when the sheriffs boat comes by, they are coming by to say hi, watch and take pics instead of asking what the heck we are doing.
What about other water crafts? Any concerns?
We attract a crowd everytime we are on the water. Boats, The Betty Lou, Kayaks, Canoes, SUP's are all coming to see what we are doing. We are very careful to make sure distance is given.
Of course if we are in practice mode, we'll put on a little show for those watching.
Anything else safety related?
There are very few limitations.
Minors must have parental approval.
Flyers should be above 100 lbs.
Flyers should be under 300 lbs.
Flyers should be comfortable in the water.
Flyers must have the ability to laugh, smile and have a great time.
How high do new flyers go?
How high do you want to fly? At first you will be kept at a controlled height (approx 5-10 feet high). As you feel more comfortable and as you learn more moves, we'll take you higher but only if we feel you are ready. We're well trained to recognize small body movements that could lead to imbalance, so we're careful with all new riders.
Of course if you have any specific questions and special requirements, please contact us and we'll do our best to answer and accommodate.
